Wayne State had 12 blocks and forced 26 Bemidji State attack errors while holding the Beavers to a -.009 attack percentage as the NCAA Division II 8
th-ranked Wildcats rolled to a 25-14, 25-12, 25-11 Northern Sun Conference volleyball victory Saturday afternoon at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. The Wildcats are now 10-2 and 4-1 in the NSIC while BSU drops to 0-13 and 0-5 in the league.
After Bemidji State opened the first set with three straight points, WSC came back to take a 9-5 lead and never looked back forcing nine attack errors as the Wildcats took the opening set 25-14. The 'Cats had five blocks in the opening set while
Kelsie Cada notched five kills followed by Jazlin DeHaan with four.
The second set saw the Wildcats force 12 BSU attack errors that included six blocks as Wayne State breezed to a 25-12 set win.
Taya Beller recorded four kills to lead a balanced Wildcat attack in the second set.
WSC scored nine straight points in the third set, highlighted by two service aces from
Lauren Jacobsen, to snap a 5-5 tie and take a 14-5 lead as the Wildcats rolled to a 25-11 third set win to complete the sweep.
Wayne State finished the match with a .371 attack percentage, recording 39 kills and six errors on just 89 attempts. Bemidji State was held to a -.009 hitting percentage with 25 kills, 26 errors and 110 attacks.
The Wildcats held a 54-39 edge in digs, 12-1 advantage in blocks and 4-0 in service aces.
Cada had a double-double for Wayne State with 12 kills and 14 digs. DeHaan contributed eight kills in the win with
Maggie Brahmer adding seven on 13 attacks and a .538 hitting percentage.
Jessie Brandl and
Rachel Walker each had 10 digs while Beller produced seven blocks. Jacobsen had two of Wayne State's four service aces and Walker was credited with 32 set assists.
The Wildcats will be on the road next weekend for NSIC matches at the University of Mary Friday night at 6 p.m. and Minot State Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
