Late UMD goal hands Wildcats heartbreaking 1-0 setback

            Minnesota Duluth scored with just 5:33 left in the contest to hand Wayne State a heartbreaking 1-0 setback in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer on a windy Friday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch.  UMD is now 5-6-3 and 4-4-3 in the NSIC while the Wildcats drop to 2-8-4 and 2-6-3 in league games.
            Both teams had to battle a gusty northwest wind throughout the contest. 
            The first half was scoreless with WSC playing into the wind as Minnesota Duluth held an 8-5 edge in shots over the Wildcats.
            Wayne State came out aggressive in the second half and had several good looks at the net but was denied by Minnesota Duluth goalkeeper Jennifer Norris.
            The Bulldogs then scored with just 5:33 to play in the contest as Anna Tobias shot the ball into the left corner of the net with assists from Myra Moorjani and Jacqueline Jares as the Bulldogs came away with the 1-0 win.
            UMD ended the contest with one more shot than Wayne State 14-13 with both teams recording six shots on goal.
            The Bulldogs had a sizeable 8-1 advantage in corner kicks while UMD had two more fouls than the 'Cats 8-6.
            Annika Syvrud had four shots and three shots on goal to lead the Wildcats followed by Morgan Rhodes with three shots and two on goal.
            Junior goalkeeper Hayden Wallace suffered the loss allowing just one goal with five saves.
            The Wildcats will be at home again Sunday hosting St. Cloud State at 1 p.m.
