Shippensburg (Pa.) erupted for 14 runs in the top of the seventh inning to break open a close 3-2 contest as the Raiders finished with a 17-2 victory over Wayne State College Thursday afternoon at the NTC Spring Games Softball Tournament in Auburndale, Florida.  Shippensburg is now 7-4 with the win while the Wildcats fall to 3-16.
The game was a 3-2 battle for six innings between the two clubs until the seventh inning eruption by the Raiders decided the contest.
Wayne State struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first as Kim Vidlak doubled to left center field with two outs and scored on a two-run homer from Jenna Etmans to put the 'Cats in front 2-0.
Shippensburg tied the score at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the third on two hits and took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning on a Wildcat error and sacrifice fly.
But the Raiders produced 14 runs in the seventh inning on 11 hits against three different Wayne State pitchers to finish the contest with a 17-2 win.
Wayne State had eight hits in the game, led by Vidlak going 2 for 3 with a double and run scored.  Kamryn Sparks added two hits, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles while Etmans accounted for a two-run homer.  Paiton Tornberg, Riley Holmberg and Lauren Laudick each singled.
Sophomore starter Callie Carraher suffered the loss (1-2) despite working six strong innings.  She allowed just six hits and three runs (two earned) with four strikeouts and one walk.
