Pittsburgh-Johnstown edges Wildcats 6-4

            Despite outhitting Pittsburgh-Johnstown 12-3, the Wayne State softball team dropped a 6-4 contest to the Mountain Cats Monday morning at the National Training Center Spring Games Softball Tournament in Auburndale, Florida.  Pitt-Johnstown is now 2-0 on the year while WSC drops to 2-13.
            Wayne State jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings.  In the first inning, senior shortstop Kim Vidlak homered to right center field for the first run of the game.  In the second, Paiton Tornberg singled and scored when Emily Hale reached on an error with the second run coming on an RBI single from Kortney Buresh that scored Riley Holmberg (single).
            The Mountain Cats got on the board with one run in the third and three runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.
            Pittsburgh-Johnstown added two runs in the top of the seventh for a 6-3 lead with the Wildcats adding one run in the bottom of the seventh on a Jenna Etmans RBI single that scored Alle Perea (single) to make the final score 6-4.
            Wayne State held a 12-3 advantage in hits over the Mountain Cats.  Vidlak and Buresh each went 3 for 4 at the plate with Vidlak connecting for a solo homer.  Holmberg added a double while going 2 for 3 with one run scored. 
            Sophomore starter Callie Carraher suffered the pitching loss (1-1) in five innings of work, striking out seven batters while allowing just one earned run on two hits and three walks.  Freshman Grace Lucka and junior Hadley Chvatal each worked one inning of relief.
            Wayne State was slated to face Northwood (Mich.) at 11 a.m. in another game Monday at the National Training Center Spring Games in Florida.
