Sioux Falls notches sweep over Wildcats

Game 1 - Sioux Falls 8 Wayne State 0 (5 inn.)

            The University of Sioux Falls posted a pair of 8-0 sweeps over Wayne State Wednesday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference softball played at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  WSC drops to 15-32 and 12-14 in the NSIC while the host Cougars move to 19-23 and 7-14 in the league.
            The first game saw both teams record seven hits, but Sioux Falls belted a pair of home runs with a three-run blast in the first and a two-run shot in the fourth to highlight the 8-0 win.
            USF scored three runs in the first and added five more in the fourth for their eight runs.
            WSC had a pair of singles in the opening frame, leaving runners on second and third.  The 'Cats had two more hits in the fourth but again could not get runs scored in the inning.
            Wayne State's seven hits were all singles by seven different players.
            Sophomore starter Callie Carraher (4-4) suffered the pitching loss in 3 1/3 innings of work with freshman Samantha Felt working the final 2/3 innings.
            The second game saw the host Cougars jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first and 6-0 lead after three as Sioux Falls posted another 8-0 win, this time in six innings.
            The Cougars added solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings to close out the Wildcats on the day.
            WSC had six hits in the game, led by Paiton Tornberg going 3 for 3 with a double while Kim Vidlak was 2 for 3. 
            Junior Hadley Chvatal was tagged with the pitching loss in 2 1/3 innings.  Freshman Grace Lucka worked three innings of relief.
            The Wildcats will be at home this weekend hosting St. Cloud State Saturday and Minnesota Duluth Sunday at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex.
