Samantha Felt helped Wayne State edge #15 Minnesota State 2-1 in the second game of an NSIC softball doubleheader Sunday at the Maverick All-Sports Dome in Mankato, Minnesota. The host Mavericks captured the opener 8-0 in five innings, giving MSU records of 22-8 overall and 4-2 in the NSIC while WSC is now 4-23 and 1-5 in league play.
The opener saw MSU starting pitcher Mackenzie Ward hold WSC to just one hit as the Mavericks posted an 8-0 win in five innings.
Minnesota State jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and added solo runs in the second and fourth innings to record the shutout win.
Wayne State's lone hit in the contest was a first inning single by
Riley Holmberg.

Hadley Chvatal was tagged with the pitching loss while freshman
Grace Lucka worked three innings of relief.
The second game was a pitching duel as both teams had just three hits in the game, but WSC had all three hits plus a Maverick error in the third inning to score both runs and Felt fired a complete game three hitter as the 'Cats gained a split with a 2-1 win over the nationally-ranked Mavericks.
After two scoreless innings to open the game, WSC scored a pair of runs two outs and one runner on base.
Mary Krystofiak singled and with two outs
Kortney Buresh reached on a Maverick fielding error. Holmberg singled to center field scoring Krystofiak while
Kim Vidlak followed with a single to right field that brought home Buresh with the second run.
Minnesota State came up with one run in the bottom of the third on two hits to trim the WSC advantage to 2-1.
MSU threatened to tie the score in the fifth inning leaving the bases loaded as WSC got out of the inning with a fielder's choice to keep the score 2-1.
The seventh inning saw MSU uses a pair of walks to put two runners on but Felt got the Mavericks to hit into a game-ending double play from third to first as WSC closed with a thrilling 2-1 win.
Holmberg and Vidlak each had RBI singles for the 'Cats while Krystofiak singled and scored.
Felt (1-5) fired a complete game win in the circle, allowing just three hits and one run with five walks and no strikeouts.
Wayne State is scheduled to host Upper Iowa Wednesday at 1 p.m. in an NSIC doubleheader at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex in Wayne.
