#17 Wayne State College Volleyball took down Molloy College in three sets Friday afternoon 25-13, 25-7, 25-17.
Taya Beller led the way for the Wildcats with 17 kills on .593 hitting percentage. She was followed by
Maggie Brahmer with nine kills on .400 hitting percentage.
Jessie Brandl led the way for the 'Cats with 15 digs in the match. She was followed by
Kelsie Cada with 14 digs and
Jordan McCormick with 10 digs. As a team, the Wildcats hit .382 in the match and had six blocks as a team led by Brahmer with three.
The first set started off with Wayne State jumping out to a quick 5-1 lead before Molloy would score three in a row to get within one of the 'Cats. The Wildcats would then build the lead to 11-5 behind two kills from Beller and one from Brahmer. Molloy College would bring it back to a six-point game at 19-13 before the 'Cats scored the last six points to win the set 25-13. Beller would lead the way in the first set for the Wildcats with five kills.
Wayne State and Molloy College would start off the second set keeping it close. The game was tied at 4-4 before Wayne State would rattle of a 13 point run to make the lead 17-4. During the run McCormick would lead the way with five kills. She was followed by Beller with four kills. Wayne State would end the set on a 5-0 run to win the set at 25-7. Beller ended the set with six kills.
The Wildcats would jump out to a 10-3 lead to open up set three behind four kills each from Beller and Cada to open the set. Wayne State would lead by as many as nine at 18-7 before Molloy got a 5-0 run to bring the Wildcat lead down to 18-12. The set would get as close as five points as Molloy got the Wildcat lead down to 22-17 before the 'Cats scored the last three points of the set to win 25-17. Beller would have six kills to lead the 'Cats in the set.
The Wildcat volleyball team will next be in action when they face Azusa Pacific University and West Florida at the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver, Colorado, September 2-3.
