Fort Hays State scored the lone goal of the contest just 1:40 into the second half as the host Tigers edged Wayne State 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer played Saturday afternoon in Hays, Kansas. Fort Hays State is now 2-0-1 on the year while the Wildcats fall to 0-2-1.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half despite a 9-2 advantage in shots by Fort Hays State.
Just 1:40 into the second half, the host Tigers found the back of the net as Montserrat Diaz scored a goal with an assist from Hannah Mares to give Fort Hays State the only goal of the contest.
Fort Hays State finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots and 8-3 in shots on goal despite WSC holding a 6-5 edge in shots in the second half. The Tigers doubled WSC in corner kicks 6-3 while Fort Hays State had 10 fouls to just five on the Wildcats.
Chloe Schlines and
Skylar Stueckrath each had two shots and one shot on goal for WSC while
Paige Pemberton had the other Wildcat shot on goal.

Sidney Truman suffered the loss despite recording seven saves and allowing just one goal.
The Wildcats open Northern Sun Conference play Friday afternoon at #19 Minnesota State in Mankato, Minnesota at 3 p.m.
