Box Score Northern State rallied from a 19-0 halftime deficit, sparked by two interception returns for touchdowns, and made a game-winning 21-yard field goal with :03 remaining to shock Wayne State 28-26 Saturday evening in Northern Sun Conference football played at Aberdeen, South Dakota. It was the sixth straight game in the series decided by seven points or less. WSC drops to 5-3 while NSU improves to 4-4.
The 'Cats got a spark to open the game as sophomore
Dawson Forgy returned the opening kickoff 68 yards giving WSC the ball at the Northern 22 to start the game.
Wayne State had the ball 1
st and goal at the NSU 3 but had to settle for a
Boston Hensley 21-yard field goal giving the 'Cats an early 3-0 lead.
The Wildcat defense created a turnover on Northern State's first possession as Joe Morrison deflected a Wolves pass that was intercepted by
Tanner Cooper and returned 46 yards to the NSU three.

Nick Bohn scored his 10
th rushing touchdown of the season on a two-yard run pushing Wayne State's lead to 9-0 at the 10:37 mark following a missed PAT kick by the Wildcats.
Northern State had two drives in the opening half that reached the Wildcat red zone, but both times the Wolves came up empty without scoring any points.
The first possession went from the Northern State two to the WSC 12, covering 86 yards on 18 plays and 9:23. Wildcat defensive back
Brayden Chaney intercepted a Colton Hackel pass in the end zone for a touchback to stop the Wolves scoring drive.
WSC then converted the Northern State turnover into points on the ensuing drive as the 'Cats marched 80 yards on nine plays with a 12-yard pass from Bohn to
Trevor Marshall capping the scoring drive increasing Wayne State's lead to 16-0 at the 9:13 mark of the second quarter.
Northern State moved the ball again on their next drive, 66 yards on 10 plays, moving the ball to the WSC 19. But the Wolves missed a 37-yard field goal.
The 'Cats then took the ball from their own 20 to the NSU 14 near the end of the first half and used another field goal from Hensley, this one from 31 yards, giving WSC a 19-0 lead at intermission.
The second half saw Northern State take away the Wildcat momentum from the first half immediately as Wolves linebacker Jake Adams intercepted a Bohn pass at the WSC 15 and raced to the end zone for a touchdown, making the score 19-6 at the 11:27 mark.
Following a WSC punt, Northern State scored again as Stanley Haskins Jr. capped a 55-yard drive on a one-yard run, cutting the Wildcat lead to 19-12 after a second straight missed PAT kick by the Wolves.
NSU forced another WSC punt and scored for a third straight time when quarterback Colton Hackel ran in from nine yards out to tie the score at 19-19 with 28 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
The momentum stayed on the side of Northern State as the Wolves got a second interception return for a touchdown in the quarter, this one from 45 yards by Luke Gunderson, giving NSU a 25-19 lead with 14:08 to play.
But Wayne State gained some rhythm on the next drive and scored to regain the lead. The big play of the scoring drive was a 58-yard catch by
Ashten Schmaderer that set up a four-yard TD pass from Bohn to tight end
Cory Hollinger with 10:34 to go, giving the 'Cats a 26-25 lead after a made PAT kick by Hensley.
The two teams traded punts and NSU started the game-winning drive from their own four-yard line with 6:06 to play. The Wolves drove 93 yards on 14 plays and got a 21-yard field goal with :03 left to take a 28-26 lead.
WSC attempted a hail mary pass on the final play of the game that was intercepted and NSU sealed the win.
Northern State held a 356-345 edge in total offense over Wayne State. The 'Cats rushed for 139 yards and passed for 206 while the Wolves had 121 on the ground and 235 passing.
Forgy rushed for 69 yards on 11 carries to lead WSC in rushing followed by 46 yards for
Latravious Boyd on 11 rushes.
Bohn completed 20 of 30 passes for 206 yards with two TD's and four interceptions.
Ashten Schmaderer had three catches for 83 yards.
Trevor Marshall added five grabs for 43 yards and one score while
Kendrick Watkins-Hogue added five receptions for 38 yards.

Alex Schall had 11 tackles to lead Wayne State.
Tanner Cooper and
Brayden Chaney each had interceptions for the 'Cats.
The Wildcats will be at home next Saturday hosting unbeaten and #17 Augustana in a 12 p.m. contest at Bob Cunningham Field.
