#1 ranked Wayne State registered a 16
th consecutive victory with a sweep over the University of Mary on Senior/Parents Day at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. Scores of the match were 25-4, 25-9, 25-15. WSC is now 23-1 and 14-0 in the NSIC while the Marauders sink to 7-17 and 2-12 in league play.
The 'Cats held UMary to a -.154 hitting percentage in the first set coasting to a 25-4 win.
Taya Beller was a perfect 7 of 7 hitting at the net in the opening set while freshman
Channatee Robles added five kills.
Havyn Heinz recorded two service aces.
Six different players recorded kills for WSC in the second set as the Wildcats rolled to a 25-9 set win. WSC hit .393 in the set with 13 kills as
Kelsie Cada led a balanced attack with four kills.
The third set was close early, but WSC scored nine of 10 points to break away from a 7-6 score and the 'Cats closed the match with a 25-15 set win.
Beller recorded five kills with Cada adding four as eight Wildcat players posted kills in the third set. Robles added two service aces in the final set.
Wayne State finished the match hitting .400 with 44 kills and just six errors on 95 attacks. UMary was limited to a -.010 percentage with 20 kills, 21 errors and 101 attacks.
The Wildcats had a 10-2 advantage in blocks and had five service aces.
Beller's 14 kills and .545 hitting percentage followed by Cada with 10 kills and 10 digs for a double-double.
Beller and
Maggie Brahmer each recorded four blocks while Heinz and Robles each had two service aces. Heinz had a team-high 13 digs with setter
Rachel Walker adding 11 digs and 33 set assists for her 10
th double-double.
The Wildcats will be at home again Tuesday evening hosting #6 Southwest Minnesota State in the annual Blackout Night match in Rice Auditorium starting at 6 p.m.
