Brahmer's career-high 25 kills power #1 Wildcats past Winona State

            Junior middle hitter Maggie Brahmer recorded a career-high 25 kills with no errors and a sizzling .694 attack percentage to power #1 ranked Wayne State College in a 25-19, 26-24, 21-25, 25-19 Northern Sun Conference volleyball victory Tuesday evening over Winona State at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  The Wildcats improve to 15-1 and 6-0 in the NSIC with the win while Winona State drops to 11-4 and 4-3 in league games.
            The first set saw 12 ties and three lead changes between the two clubs.  With the score tied at 19-19, WSC reeled off the final six points of the set to post a 25-19 opening set win.
            A Maggie Brahmer kill gave WSC the lead for good.  Two Winona State errors, a Jordan McCormick service ace, a kill by Taya Beller and another Warrior error to end the set capped the 6-0 run to end the set.
            Brahmer had five kills in the opening set followed by Channatee Robles and Beller with three apiece.
            Winona State led most of the second set and was in front 23-20 when the Wildcats rallied to go extra points for a 26-24 set win.
            Kills from Beller and Kelsie Cada and a block by Beller and Walker tied the score at 23-23.  Winona State had set point at 24-23 but the 'Cats got an attack from Winona State followed by a Brahmer kill to give WSC set point at 25-24 and the 'Cats clinched the set with another Warrior error to rally for the 26-24 set win.
            Brahmer had eight kills on nine swings while Cada added five kills in the set.
            Winona State kept the match alive in the third set posting a 25-21 set win over the Wildcats as the Warriors hit .356 with 19 kills.
            Wayne State then stormed back in the fourth set, never trailing while jumping out to a 4-0 lead, as the 'Cats finished the match with a 25-18 fourth set win.
            The visiting Warriors got as close as one at 12-11 and 13-12, but the 'Cats surged late and closed with a 25-18 set win to take the match 3-1.
            Brahmer had six kills in the final set to lead the 'Cats as WSC forced seven attack errors on the Warriors.
            WSC finished the match with a .283 hitting percentage while Winona State hit .233.  The Warriors held a 64-61 edge in kills, but the Wildcats forced 22 errors on Winona State.  WSC held a 6-3 edge in blocks while the 'Cats had two more service aces than the Warriors 5-3.
            Brahmer's career-high 25 kills led WSC in the win, tied for the 10th-most kills in a single match.  She did not have an attack error while hitting .694 in the match with 36 total attacks.  Beller added 13 kills followed by Cada and Robles with 10 kills each.
            Senior libero Jordan McCormick accounted for a career-best 26 digs with Cada adding 18.
            Senior setter Rachel Walker reached a milestone as she became the fourth player in school history to surpass 4,000 career set assists in the opening set.  The Lincoln Southwest graduate ended the night with 51 assists and 12 digs for her eighth double-double of the season.
            The Wildcats will be at home again this weekend hosting Bemidji State Friday night at 6 p.m. and Minnesota Crookston Saturday in a 4 p.m. contest.
