Winona State handed Wayne State a 3-0 setback in Winona, Minnesota Thursday evening in the Northern Sun Conference women's soccer season finale for both teams. WSC ends the year 10
th place in the NSIC with records of 7-8-3 and 5-6-3 in the NSIC while Winona State ends at 3-7-7 and 2-6-6 in league games.
The host Warriors held a 6-1 edge in shots in the first half and scored in the 32
nd minute for a 1-0 lead at intermission.
Maia Vacks registered a shot on goal at the 13:36 mark for the Wildcats.
Winona State added a pair of second half goals in the 67
th and 86
th minutes to finish with the 3-0 victory.
The Wildcats got a shot on goal from
Paige Pemberton at the 60-minute mark, but the 'Cats could not find many shots to rally for the comeback as Winona State outshot the 'Cats 8-3 in the second half.
Winona State ended the contest with a 14-4 advantage in shots over the Wildcats and 9-2 in shots on goal.
The Warriors held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks in the contest.
Vacks and Pemberton had the two Wildcat shots on goal while
Morgan Rhodes and
Annika Syvrud were each credited with shots. Senior goalkeeper
Hayden Wallace recorded six saves in the contest.
