Wayne State hosts Buena Vista University Friday evening in the 2023-24 season opener for the Wildcats with tip off set for 6 p.m. in Rice Auditorium. The Wildcats were 11-16 last season and 7-15 in the NSIC and voted tied for 10th in this year's NSIC Preseason WBB Coaches Poll while the Beavers were picked eighth in the American Rivers Conference Preseason Coaches Poll after posting records of 6-18 overall and 1-15 in league play last season. Friday's game marks the first time since 1987 that the two teams have met in women's basketball.  Wayne State has won six of the seven meetings between the two schools with WSC winning the most recent meeting in 1987 87-64 in Wayne.
