Wildcat men drop sixth straight falling at Sioux Falls 70-62

Box Score             The Wayne State College men's basketball team dropped their sixth straight game Saturday afternoon suffering a 70-62 setback at the University of Sioux Falls in Northern Sun Conference action played at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  Host Sioux Falls improves to 5-7 overall and 3-4 in the NSIC while the Wildcats drop to 7-6 and 1-6 in league play.
            Wayne State held the lead early in the contest, in front 6-2 and 8-6 following a layup by David Harmon with 13:53 to play in the half.  That was the final lead of the game for the Wildcats.
            Sioux Falls scored the next nine points, holding WSC scoreless for 4:13, to take a 15-8 lead. 
            With the Cougars leading 19-10, the Wildcats reeled off eight straight points and closed within one at 19-18 on a pair of Trey Deveaux free throws at the 5:32 mark.  WSC was still within one at 25-24 following a JJ Ferrin layup with 2:17 to play in the half, but the Cougars scored the final seven points of the half to take a 32-24 lead at intermission.
            Early in the second half, the host Cougars built their lead to double figures and was in front 38-26.
            WSC rallied and got as close as two points several times.  A Sean Stokes layup at the 10:26 mark cut the Cougar lead to 44-42. 
            Moments later, an Alec Millender 3-pointer got the Wildcats within two again at 51-49 with 8:41 remaining.
            Wayne State was still within reach with four minutes to play, trailing 57-53.  But the Cougars scored the next seven points to push the lead back to double figures at 64-53 with 1:46 left and finished with a 70-62 victory.
            The Wildcats had four players in double figures, led by Deveaux's 12 points.  Elijah Watson and Millender each poured in 11 points with Harmon scoring 10.
            Wayne State shot just 40 percent from the field making 20 of 50 shots.  The 'Cats hit 4 of 12 shots from the 3-point line and were 18 for 21 (85.7%) at the free throw line.
            Jake Kettner and Jack Thompson both scored 14 points to lead Sioux Falls with Kenji Scales adding 10.
            Sioux Falls made 25 of 52 shots for 48.1 percent.  The Cougars were 7 of 16 from 3-point range and 13 of 20 at the charity stripe.
            The Cougars held a 29-22 advantage in rebounding over the Wildcats.  Cody McCullough grabbed seven boards for WSC and had a team-high five steals with two blocked shots. 
            The Wildcats resume play on Saturday, December 30th hosting Buena Vista in a non-conference game at Rice Auditorium in Wayne starting at 5:30 p.m.
