Wayne State shot just 24 percent in the first half and made just one three-pointer in 19 attempts as #13 Minnesota Duluth handed the Wildcats their first loss of the season Saturday afternoon 82-54 in Northern Sun Conference men's basketball played in Duluth, Minnesota. WSC is now 7-1 and 1-1 in league play while the host Bulldogs improve to 6-1 and 1-0 in the NSIC.
The Wildcats never led in the contest as host UMD jumped out to a 6-0 lead. That advantage quickly grew to 10-2 and the host Bulldogs held a double digit lead at 17-5 with just over five minutes played in the contest.
Wayne State found themselves trailing 41-27 at intermission as the "Cats hit just 8 of 33 shots in the first half for 24.2 percent.
The second half saw WSC never get closer than 11 points. Sophomore
David Harmon scored four straight points and had the 'Cats within 11 at 50-39 with 11:47 to play. But the host Bulldogs never allowed WSC to get the game into single digits and Minnesota Duluth extended the lead to finish with a convincing 82-54 victory.
Wayne State finished the game making 19 of 65 shots for just 29.2 percent, including 1 for 19 behind the arc. The 'Cats were 15 of 20 at the free throw line.

Alec Millender led Wayne State in scoring with 15 points followed by junior forward
Trey Deveaux with 13. Junior center
Cody McCullough had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
For Minnesota Duluth, Charlie Katona poured in a game-high 21 points. Lincoln Meister (12), Matt Thompson (11) and Drew Blair (10) also hit double figures for the Bulldogs.
UMD was 28 of 65 from the floor for 43.1 percent. The Bulldogs made 7 of 22 3-pointers and were 19 of 23 (82%) at the free throw line.
Wayne State held a slight 45-41 edge in rebounding thanks to McCullough's 10 boards.
The Wildcats will be in action again Sunday afternoon playing at Concordia-St. Paul in a 2 p.m. contest.
