Minnesota State hits go ahead basket with three seconds left in the contest against Wayne State to steal a 67-66 victory over the Wildcats inside Rice Auditorium Friday evening. Wayne State falls to 16-9 on the year (11-8 NSIC) while Minnesota State improves to 16-9 (10-9 NSIC).

    Both teams opened the game cold as the Mavericks went up 5-3 at the first media timeout of the game with 14:38 remaining in the half. MSU would increase their lead to as many as six at the 10:35 mark of the first half before the Wildcats cut it to two at 14-12 behind an
Elijah Watson second chance basket with 9:25 left in the half. MSU and WSC would trade baskets through the third media timeout with MSU going up four at 30-26 with 3:55 left in the first half. Wayne State would get their first lead to the game with 33 seconds left in the first half after a fastbreak layup
Jay Saunders to take the 32-30 lead heading into the locker room.

Jordan Janssen would lead all scorers in the first half with 13 points while adding six rebounds for the 'Cats. Saunders would add eight points also for Wayne State. Both teams would shoot 40.7% in the first half while the Mavericks edged the Wildcats in three-point percentage 30% (3-10) to 22.2% (2-9). Both teams would have seven turnovers also in the first half.

    Wayne State would come out and get a quick basket from
Justin Eagins to go up by four before the teams would start to trade baskets again. WSC would lead for the first eight minutes of the second half before the Mavericks tied up the game at 43-4 with 12:43 left in the half. WSC would go on a 6-0 run out of the media timeout to lead 55-51 with 7:42 left to play. MSU would pull within one at 5:40 left in the half at 59-58. WSC would then go up four with 2:31 left in the game before a 5-0 run by the Mavericks would shock the Wildcats and win 67-66.
    Janssen would lead the Wildcats in scoring with 17 points followed by Saunders with 15 and
Cody McCullough with 11 points. Janssen would also add eight rebounds while McCullough, Saunders, and
Nick Ferrarini would add four rebounds.
WSC would have 38 points in the paint while MSU would have 22. WSC turned the ball over 16 times in the loss to the Mavericks 10. WSC would shoot 46.4% in the loss (26-56) while the Mavericks shot 42.6% from the field (23-54).

    Wayne State will look to bounce back tomorrow as they will host the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears on senior night. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. inside Rice Auditorium.
