Hot Shooting leads Wildcats to 80-53 Win Over Sioux Falls

Wayne State Wins Share of NSIC South Division Title

    Hot shooting Wildcats defeat Sioux Falls 80-53 in the home finale for the regular season. Wayne State moves to 18-9 on the season with a 13-8 record in the NSIC. Sioux Falls moves to 17-10 and 12-9 in the NSIC. Wayne State with the victory tonight, the Wildcats have clinched a share of the NSIC South Division Title with one game to play.
 
    Wayne State and Sioux Falls would trade baskets back and forth to begin the contest with USF going up by as many as three. Cody McCullough would tie the game up at 7-7 before the Wildcats would go on a 11-2 run forcing a timeout from the cougars. The Wildcats wouldn't look back in the first half building the lead up to 22 at the final media timeout of the half at 36-14 with 4:44 left in the first half. USF would cut into the lead heading into halftime with the 'Cats still up 41-22.
           
     Forward Jordan Janssen scored 14 points to lead the 'Cats in the first half along with four rebounds. McCullough would tally 10 points and nine rebounds while Justin Eagins with nine points and two and two assists.  WSC would shoot 51.5 percent in the first half (17-33) and 60 percent from behind the arc (3-5). The Cougars would shoot 30 percent (9-30) and 18.8 percent (3-16).
 
    The Wildcats would open up the second half continuing to build their lead up to 26 points after a Nick Ferrarini shot to force a timeout from the Cougars at 12:22 left in the second half. WSC would hit back-to-back three pointers to build the lead out of the media timeout. The Wildcats would hold their biggest lead of the game at 35 points with 5:08 left to play in the game with the score 73-38. Wayne State would go on to win the game 80-53 inside Rice Auditorium.
 
    Four Wildcat players would be in double figures with McCullough leading all scores with 19. He was followed by Eagins with 16, Janssen with 14, and Nate Mohr with 10. Sophomore Noah Erickson would post his career high nine points in the win. McCullough would post his fifth double-double of the season after adding ten rebounds to his total.
 
    Wayne State would shoot 54.8% in the win (34-62) and 50 percent from behind the arc (8-16). The Cougars would shoot 36.8 percent in the loss (21-57) and 25.9 percent from beyond the arc (7-27). WSC would out rebound the Cougars 38-28 in the win.
 
    Wayne State will close the regular season when they travel to Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday February 18th with tipoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
