Pittsburg State jumped out to a 12-0 lead after three innings on their way to a 12-1 five inning victory over Wayne State Sunday morning at the Pittsburg State Softball Triangular in Kansas. PSU improves to 6-6 with the win while dropping Wayne State to 0-3.
The host Gorillas produced four runs in the first, five more in the second and three in the third for a 12-0 lead.
Wayne State avoided the shutout with a run in the top of the fifth inning as
Abby Husing singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and later scored on an RBI groundout from
Lauren Laudick to make the final score 12-1.
Pittsburg State held a 13-7 advantage in hits over the Wildcats. Seniors
Riley Holmberg and
Kim Vidlak each went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles to lead WSC.
Madison Gomez,
Annika Manzanares and Husing each had hits while Husing scored the lone Wildcat run.
Freshman starter
Sophie Stuart (0-1) suffered the pitching loss in 1 2/3 innings of work while sophomore
Grace Lucka relieved and pitched the final 2 1/3 innings.
Wayne State was scheduled to play Drury Sunday afternoon to close out play at the Pittsburg State Triangular.
