NSIC Baseball Weekly Release 4/18/23

            Wayne State freshman catcher Trey Wells was announced Tuesday afternoon as the Northern Sun Conference Baseball Player of the Week following his performance last week vs. Minot State and Upper Iowa.  It's the second straight week that WSC has collected NSIC Player of the Week honors after junior outfielder Colin Lynam earned league top player honors last week.
            Wells, a graduate of Elkhorn North HS, posted a .476 average last week going 10 for 21 at the plate with six home runs and 12 RBIs with a 1.381 slugging percentage.  Wells blasted home runs in four straight games last week, highlighted by three solo homers vs. Minot State last Wednesday afternoon.  He followed that game with another home run and a second that was reduced to a single due to a technicality in a walk off 13-12 10 inning win over the Beavers.
            Wells added a three-run homer Friday in a 10-8 win at Upper Iowa and was 4 for 5 with a double and three RBIs in a 12-5 win over the Peacocks. 
            Wayne State is 18-18 overall and 12-10 in the NSIC following Tuesday's home split vs. Winona State ( W 9-1, L 6-5) and the Wildcats will host Concordia-St. Paul in a three-game NSIC series this weekend at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex with a doubleheader Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and a nine-inning game Sunday at 12 p.m.
