Golden Bears sweep Wildcats

Game 1 - Concordia-St. Paul 4 Wayne State 2

Game 2 - Concordia-St. Paul 7 Wayne State 3

            The Wayne State softball team would fall in a pair of games to Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday in Wayne. The first game was a 4-2 final, and the second game was a 7-3 final. WSC is now 6-23 on the season (1-5 NSIC) while CSP moves to 17-12 (3-1 NSIC).

GAME 1 – CSP 4 WSC 2
            CSP would score their first run off a double from shortstop Taylor Griffin down the left field line allowing the Golden Bears to score their first run of the game. Dainni Sharum would get the Golden Bears up 2-0 in the fourth inning with a double down the right field line. The 'Cats would then strike back with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the fourth inning from Lauren Laudick, her fourth of the year. Concordia-St. Paul wouldn't wait long as they took the lead back in the fifth after a two run double to take the lead to 4-2 in favor of the Golden Bears. Wayne State would get the bases loaded in the sixth with two outs before a Concordia-St. Paul strikeout would end the inning. CSP would end up going on to win the game 4-2 over WSC.
            Wayne State would have six hits in the loss to Concordia-St. Paul's five hits. Wildcats would have three errors to the Golden Bears one.
Wildcat Leftfielder Laudick was the leading batter for the Wildcats going one of two from the plate with a home run. She also posted two RBIs in the loss. Grace Lucka would pitch all seven innings for the Wildcats posting four strikeouts in the loss.
GAME 2 – CSP 7 WSC 3
            A Concordia-St. Paul single would get the Golden Bears on the board first in the second game leading 1-0 in top half of the first inning. 'Cats would strike back in the bottom half of the inning, taking the lead after a single up the middle from Haley Murphy giving WSC a 2-1 advantage. Wildcats would extend the lead with a single from Madison Gomez down the right field line sending Murphy home to go up 3-1 on the Golden Bears. Concordia-St. Paul would strike back in the top of the sixth inning scoring off a sac fly and then a Wildcat error would cost them two more runs to make it 4-3 Concordia-St. Paul. CSP would then hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to build the lead up to 7-3. CSP would go on to win the game 7-3 after WSC would go down in order in the bottom of the seventh.
            Wildcats would have nine hits compared to the seven hits for the Golden Bears. Both teams would post two errors.
            Laudick would have two hits off of four at bats with one run scored for the 'Cats in the loss. Paiton Tornberg was also two from three from the plate for WSC. Murphy and Gomez would each have an RBI for WSC. Samantha Felt would pitch 5.1 innings for WSC throwing 78 pitches with 51 strikes. Sophie Stewart would finish the game for the Wildcats pitching 1.2 innings and striking out one batter

            Wayne State will next be in action when they hit the road to play Upper Iowa on Wednesday April 5th in Fayette, Iowa.
