The Wayne State College football team opens the 2023 campaign at home Thursday evening hosting MSU Moorhead at Bob Cunningham Field in Wayne with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
            The 'Cats were picked third in this year's NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll after going 9-3 last season, winning the schools' first-ever NSIC regular season title while advancing to the NCAA Division II playoffs for the second time in school history.  MSUM was picked 10^th after records of 4-7 last season and 3-3 in the NSIC North Division.
            MSU Moorhead holds a 15-11 lead in the all-time series against Wayne State, but the 'Cats have won the last two matchups that include a 10-7 win in Wayne last season on November 12^th.  Nine of the games in the series have been decided by seven points or less including four of the last five contests.
