#1 Wayne State set a new single game school record with a .536 hitting percentage as the Wildcats cruised past Peru State Tuesday evening in a non-conference volleyball match played at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. Scores of the match were 25-12, 25-12, 25-8. WSC is now 12-1 while Peru State is 6-12.
Peru State battled with the Wildcats early in the first set. With WSC holding a 9-8 lead, the 'Cats took control of the set scoring eight of the next nine points for a 17-9 lead that forced a Bobcat timeout. WSC would score 11 straight points, turning an 11-9 lead into a 22-9 advantage capped by an
Ally Beresford service ace.
The Wildcats hit .481 in the opening set with 17 kills, led by
Maggie Brahmer with seven and
Kelsie Cada six.
The second set saw the Wildcats .583 with 17 kills as the 'Cats posted another 25-12 set win.
Brahmer had five kills on five swings in the set while freshman
Laney Kathol added three kills as seven different Wildcats recorded kills in the set.
13 different Wildcats saw action in the third set as Wayne State closed the match with a 25-8 third set win.
WSC had five service aces in the set, led by Beresford with two. The 'Cats hit .556 in the set and saw
Taya Beller record a team-high four kills.
Wayne State finished the match with a new school record .536 hitting percentage, recording 45 kills on 69 attempts with just eight errors. The previous school record for hitting percentage was .533 against William Jewell in the 2013 season (9/14/13).
The 'Cats had nine service aces in the win compared to two for the Bobcats. WSC held a 30-14 edge in digs while Peru State had three blocks to none for the 'Cats.
Brahmer led Wayne State with 14 kills on 16 swings and no errors for a .875 hitting percentage.
Kelsie Cada added eight kills with a .636 hitting percentage while Beller and
Channatee Robles each had six kills.

Jordan McCormick accounted for 13 digs in the win while senior setter
Rachel Walker was credited with 34 set assists. Beresford finished with three service aces and McCormick had two.
The 'Cats face a tough NSIC road trip this weekend visiting #6 St. Cloud State Friday at 6 p.m. and #10 Minnesota Duluth Saturday in a 4 p.m. contest.
