#3 Wildcats Win Highly Competitive Battle Over #19 Regis 3-1

 It took four sets for Wayne State to defeat #19 Regis on their home court during their second match of the Colorado Premier Challenge. Wayne State won the first two sets 28-26 and 25-23 while Regis took the fourth 25-12. Wayne State would rally back to take the fourth set 26-24. Wayne State moves to 6-0 on the season while Regis falls to 3-3 on the season. 

Taya Beller would lead the 'Cats with 15 kills in the win. She was followed by Maggie Brahmer with 14 kills. Jordan McCormick would add 19 digs, she was followed by Kelsie Cada with ten and Rachel Walker with ten. Beller also added six blocks while Channatee Robles added five blocks in the win.  WSC would hold a .220 attacking percentage while RU would hold a .292 attacking percentage. 

Set One: #3 Wayne State 28 #19 Regis 26

The two teams would open up trading points back and forth with neither team building more than a one point lead. Wayne State though would go on an early 3-0 run making it 8-5. RU would cut it to one, but WSC would extend the lead to 11-8 forcing a Regis timeout. Wayne State would extend their lead following the timeout up to 15-9. RU would then go on a 6-0 run of their own to tie up the game at 15. Regis would then build a lead to 20-17 forcing Wayne State to take a timeout. Regis would get the game all the way to set point at 24-18 before the wildcats would score the next six points to tie it all up 24. Wayne State and Regis would trade points with the game tied at 26, Beller would use a pair of kills to put away the set giving the Wildcats a 28-26 win. 

Cada and Beller would both lead WSC with four kills in the set followed by Brahmer and Laney Kathol with three each. McCormick would add six digs for the 'Cats while Robles would have four blocks in the set. 

Set Two: #3 Wayne State 25 #19 Regis 23

The second set was just as competitive as the first set. Regis would open up a 5-1 lead to start the set before Wayne state would go on a 5-0 run to take the 6-5 lead early in the second set. The two teams would then trade points with the match tied at 8-8. The Wildcats would then go on a 4-0 run behind a bad set and a pair of attack errors from Regis. Maggie Brahmer would force a Regis timeout after a kill to make it 12-8 in favor of WSC. Regis would get within two of the Wildcat lead at 15-13, but Wayne State would then extend the lead to six at 19-13 forcing the second RU timeout of the set. Wayne State would have their biggest lead of the set at 22-15 before Regis would go on a 5-1 run making it 23-20 forcing WSC to use a timeout. Regis would force the WSC to use another timeout after pulling within one at 23-22. The two teams would then trade points out of the timeout giving the Wildcats the 25-23 set two win. 

Brahmer led WSC with four kills in the set followed by Robles with three. Cada would add eight digs while McCormick added seven in the set win. Beller would also have three blocks for the 'Cats. 

Set Three: #19 Regis 25 #3 Wayne State 12 

Regis would dominate the third set from start to finish. They opened up the set on an 8-3 run which forced Wayne State to use a timeout. The wildcats would get within five at 10-5, but that was as close as they would get. Regis would lead by as many as 14 in set three at 24-10. Regis would go on to win the set at 25-12. 

Strong hitting led to the dominating third set win for Regis. They hit .520 compared to the Wildcats .069. Beller would lead the 'Cats with four kills in the set. 

Set Four: #3 Wayne State 26 #19 Regis 24 

WSC would have a slow start to the fourth set, allowing RU to go up 6-3 forcing a Wildcat timeout. WSC wouldn't go away though as they battled back into the match, eventually tying the game up at 9-9. Everytime regis would build a lead, WSC would have an answer. RU led 16-13 before WSC would go on a 4-0 run to get their first lead of the set at 17-16. The two teams would then trade points back and forth. A Brahmer kill would force RU to take a timeout at 20-19 in favor of WSC. Regis would come out of the timeout on a 4-1 run forcing the Wildcats to take a timeout with RU leading 23-21. WSC would tie it up after their timeout at 23, before the two teams would trade points, tying the game at 24-24. Wayne State would then use an ace serve from Beller and an attack error from RU to take the set and match at 26-24. 

Beller and Brahmer would both have five kills for WSC in the set win. Cada would also add five digs for WSC in the fourth set victory. 

Wayne State has won their pool with their two victories today and will play in the gold bracket tomorrow. WSC will play two matches, first vs. #13 West Florida at 11:30 a.m.
