#16 Minot State men shuts down WSC 71-60

            #16 Minot State held Wayne State to just 36.7 percent shooting as the Beavers pulled away late for a 71-60 Northern Sun Conference men's basketball win over the Wildcats Saturday afternoon at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  WSC slips to 12-9 and 5-9 in the league while Minot State is now 16-4 and 11-3 in the league.
            The visiting Beavers held the lead for the first 11 minutes of the game, holding several leads of six points. 
            With Minot State leading 16-10 at the 10:16 mark, the Wildcats scored 10 straight points to take a 20-16 lead at the 8:20 mark.
            Wayne State took their biggest lead of the game at 23-18 with 6:45 on the clock following a Trey Deveaux basket. 
            The 'Cats still held a 25-22 lead until Minot State reeled off eight straight points for a 30-25 lead.  An Alec Millender 3-pointer right before halftime tied the game at 32-32 at halftime.
            Minot State scored the opening six points of the second half and never trailed again.  After building an early eight-point lead, Minot State saw the Wildcats close within one at 47-46 on a Noah Erickson 3-pointer with 9:27 remaining.
            The 'Cats were still within three at 53-50 with just over seven minutes left when Minot State used a scoring run to take control of the game.  The Beavers scored eight straight points to take a double-digit lead at 61-50 with 5:26 to play and the Beavers led by double figures the rest of the way to finish with the 71-60 win.
            Deveaux, Millender and David Harmon each scored 12 points for Wayne State.
            The 'Cats had their second-worst shooting game of the season, making just 18 of 49 shots for 36.7 percent.  WSC was 8 for 21 behind the arc and 16 for 18 at the charity stripe.
            Khari Broadway had 17 points for Minot State.  Jaxon Gunville poured in 16, Jalen Cook 13 and Michael Jok had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
            Minot State shot 45 percent for the game making 23 of 51 shots.  The Beavers were 6 for 24 behind the arc and 19 of 23 at the line.
            Minot State held a 38-26 advantage in rebounding.  Elijah Watson had six boards for WSC.
            Wayne State is at home next weekend, hosting Concordia-St. Paul Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Minnesota Duluth Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
