Wildcat women fall in overtime to Minot State

            Despite a game-high 28 points from graduate student forward Britney Ho, the Wayne State College women's basketball team fell in overtime Saturday afternoon to Minot State 73-70 in Northern Sun Conference play at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  WSC drops to 5-12 and 2-12 in the NSIC while Minot State is now 8-15 and 5-9 in the league.
            Minot State scored the first 10 points of the game followed by Wayne State scoring the next 12 points in the final 4:41 of the quarter to take a 12-10 lead.
            The Wildcats built a pair of seven-point leads in the second quarter, leading 23-16 with 4:36 to play before halftime.  But the visiting Beavers battled back and tied the score at 26-26 at intermission.
            WSC scored the first five points of the third quarter for a 31-26 lead.  However, Minot State stormed back and led 37-32 before the Wildcats closed the quarter strong and held a 42-41 advantage after three quarters.
            The two teams traded three leads with four ties early in the fourth quarter, but it was Minot State who appeared to have the game locked up holding a six-point lead at 59-53 with 1:00 to play.
            Britney Ho made a pair of free throws with 47 seconds to play to cut the lead to four and hit two more with 18 seconds to play reducing the Beaver lead to 59-57. 
            Minot State missed two free throws and Ho converted a layup with 4.4 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime tied at 59-59.
            The visiting Beavers scored the first five points of the extra session and never trailed.  WSC got as close as one two different occasions, the first at 67-66 following two Tate Norblade free throws with 1:41 to go.  The second came at 69-68 on a layup from Ho.
            Minot State sealed the win with free throws down the stretch to secure the 73-70 overtime win.
            Ho poured in 28 points to lead Wayne State.  She was 8 of 12 from the field and 11 for 11 at the foul line.  Norblade also hit double figures with 11 points.
            Wayne State hit 21 of 48 shots for 43.8 percent.  The 'Cats were 5 for 17 from 3-point range and 23 for 28 at the charity stripe.
            Sydney Gustavsson scored 22 points for Minot State.  Emma Mogen and Jaime Skeggs each had 11.
            Minot State made 26 of 55 shots for 47.3 percent, going 6 of 19 behind the arc while making 15 of 24 free throws.
            Minot State had one more rebound than WSC 29-28.  Norblade led WSC on the glass with six boards.
            Brooklyn Kruse handed out six assists while Abby Kopecky and Delaney Clark each had three steals.
            The Wildcats will be at home again next weekend hosting Concordia-St. Paul Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Minnesota Duluth Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
