Brooklyn Kusler recorded a match-high 14 kills with a .500 hitting percentage to lead #8 Wayne State College in a Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep over Augustana Thursday evening in the 17
th annual Black Out Night match played at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. Scores of the match were 25-14, 25-15, 25-16. WSC is now 15-3 and 9-1 in the NSIC while the Vikings are now 9-10 and 5-5 in the league.
Augustana held the lead early in the first set at 9-6, but the 'Cats caught fire and used a pair of long serving runs by senior
Brooke Peltz and freshman
Anna Borner to take control of the set for a 25-14 win.
WSC scored seven of eight points to take the lead for good at 13-10. After an Augustana kill cut the lead to 13-11, Kusler recorded a kill for a 14-11 lead then Borner served eight straight points that included an ace and three more kills by Kusler for a 22-11 Wildcat lead in the set.
Kusler and
Taya Beller ended a balanced Wildcat attack in the opening set with four kills apiece followed by
Maggie Brahmer with three. Borner accounted for six digs and two service aces in the set.
The second set saw the Vikings battle early with the 'Cats, but another late set scoring surge produced a 25-15 second set win.
Augustana held a 9-7 lead, but WSC scored the next seven points highlighted by consecutive serving aces by
Channatee Robles to give the 'Cats a 14-9 cushion. A kill by Kusler, back-to-back kills by Beller and a
Brooke Peltz service ace led to a 19-11 advantage and the Wildcats finished with a 25-15 victory.
Kusler and Beller accounted for five kills each in the second set for WSC. Robles added three kills and two aces as WSC forced six Augustana errors and a .105 hitting percentage in the set.
The third set saw the Wildcats post a .440 hitting percentage without an error on 11 kills while also forcing 11 Viking attack errors to cap the Black Out Night sweep with 25-16 win.
WSC turned an early 6-3 deficit scoring five straight points for an 8-6 lead forcing an Augustana timeout. The Vikings were still within reach at 12-9 until a Kusler kill and consecutive Wildcat blocks gave the "Cats a 15-9 lead. A solo block by
Molly Romano put the 'Cats ahead 19-12 and WSC closed the night with a 25-16 third set win.
Kusler had five kills to pace the 'Cats in the final set followed by Brahmer with four. WSC held Augustana to a .051 hitting percentage in the set forcing 11 errors that included five blocks.
Wayne State finished the match hitting .351 with 39 kills and just six errors on 94 attacks. Augustana had a .097 hitting percentage with 33 kills and 22 errors on 113 attacks. WSC had one more dig than Augustana 48-47 and held a 10-1 advantage in blocks. The 'Cats also had seven aces to three for the Vikings.
Kusler's match-high 14 kills and .500 hitting percentage led Wayne State's attack. Beller added nine kills with Brahmer producing eight and Robles seven. Robles had three service aces followed by Borner's two.

Taylor Bunjer was credited with a team-best five blocks in the win with Beller and Brahmer adding four apiece. Senior libero

Molly Romano recorded 30 set assists.
The Wildcats hit the road Saturday for an NSIC contest at Minnesota State starting at 2 p.m.
