The Wayne State College women's soccer team battled #9 Minnesota State to a 0-0 tie in Northern Sun Conference action Sunday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch. The tie snapped an 18-game losing skid to the Mavericks dating back to the series opener in the 1998 season. Wayne State is now 4-5-4 and 3-3-3 in NSIC games while Minnesota State is 9-1-4 and 8-0-2 in league play.
Minnesota State held a 9-4 advantage on shots in the opening half including 2-0 in shots on goal.
The Wildcats came out in the second half and played more aggressively and produced six shots with three on goal compared to eight shots and four on goal for the Mavericks.
Fifth year goalkeeper
Sidney Truman recorded her fourth shutout of the year denying the Mavericks a goal while credited with six saves in the shutout tie.
Minnesota State ended the contest with a 17-10 edge in shots and 6-3 in shots on goal. The Mavericks held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks while called for 13 fouls to eight on WSC.
Paige Pemberton and
Rachel Davis each had two shots and one shot on goal for the Wildcats. Senior
Maia Vacks was credited with the other shot on goal for Wayne State.
The Wildcats will be at home again Friday afternoon hosting Bemidji State in a 3 p.m. contest.
