Northern State stopped Wayne State on 4
th and 1 from the Wolves seven-yard line on the final play of the game to edge the Wildcats 28-21 in Northern Sun Conference football played Saturday afternoon at Bob Cunningham Field in Wayne. Northern State ends the year at 6-5 and 6-4 in the NSIC while WSC is 6-4 and 5-4 heading into next Saturday's season finale at home against Concordia-St. Paul.

Latravious Boyd scoring on an 11-yard run giving the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.
After punting the first two drives of the game, the Northern State offense started to click in the second quarter and began a stretch of scoring on four of five possessions. The Wolves tied the score on a Hank Kraft one-yard plunge with 13:10 to play in the first half.
The Wildcats answered on their next drive, covering 76 yards in just six plays with freshman
Akeem Knox scoring on a three-yard run giving WSC a 14-7 lead.
The Wolves scored late in the first half to forge a 14-14 tie as quarterback Daniel Britt found Cade Kaiser on an 11-yard scoring play with 2:53 left in the opening half.
Northern State took the opening kickoff of the second half and grabbed a 21-14 lead when Kraft found the end zone for the second time in the game, this time scoring on a six-yard run.
NSU took advantage of a Wildcat turnover on the next drive and scored again to take a 28-14 lead.

Nick Bohn was intercepted by Northern State's Luke Gunderson at the NSU 33. The Wolves needed just four plays covering 67 yards and took a 28-14 lead on a one-yard sneak by reserve quarterback Colton Hackel.
The Wildcats cut the lead to 28-21 on the opening play of the fourth quarter when Knox sprinted 18 yards for his second score of the day.
The rest of the fourth quarter turned into a defensive battle as WSC forced four Northern State punts while the 'Cats punted twice until the final drive of the game with a chance to tie the contest.
With no timeouts remaining, WSC forced a NSU punt and got the ball at the WSC 39 with 1:50 to play.

Kendrick Watkins-Hogue in the end zone was knocked away by Northern State's Kegan Mountain as the Wolves held on for the 28-21 victory.
Wayne State held a 406-340 advantage in total offense. The 'Cats had 247 yards rushing and 159 passing while NSU gained 186 on the ground and 154 passing.
Bohn had 97 yards on 12 carries for WSC followed by Boyd with 95 yards on 15 rushes and one score. Knox ended with 55 yards on 16 attempts and two TD's.
Throwing the ball, Bohn was 18 of 35 for 159 yards with two interceptions. Watkins-Hogue had five catches for 53 yards followed by Boyd with four receptions for 26 yards.

Alex Schall led the Wildcat defense with 11 tackles. Senior
Jacob Byrd added six tackles.
The Wildcats close out the 2024 season at home next Saturday hosting Concordia-St. Paul in a 12 p.m. game at Bob Cunningham Field in Wayne.
