Rockhurst scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge Wayne State 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the Emporia State 6-State Softball Classic in Emporia, Kansas. The Hawks are now 2-2 while WSC drops to 1-6 on the year.
Rockhurst opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead.
Wayne State threatened to score in the second inning, loading the bases on a pair of walks and a double by
Mary Krystofiak. But the 'Cats ended the inning with a fly ball to center field to leave the bases full.
The Wildcats did score in the top of the third to tie the score at 1-1 but left the bases loaded again.
Jordyn Rochholz and
Abby Husing opened the inning with singles with Rochholz later scoring on a groundout from
Emilee Marth to even the score at 1-1.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth when Rockhurst got two of their three hits and scored the go-ahead run to win the game 2-1.
Wayne State held a 4-3 edge in hits over the Hawks. Krystofiak had a double to lead WSC at the plate while Rochholz singled and scored, Husing singled and
Annika Manzanares singled.

Samantha Felt suffered the hard-luck loss in the circle, allowing just two hits and two runs in 5 1/3 innings of work. Sophomore reliever
Sophie Stuart worked the final 2/3 innings.
Wayne State will conclude play in the Emporia State 6-State Classic facing host Emporia State at 4:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
