Box Score 2 Missouri S&T used a pair of four-run innings late in each game to sweep Wayne State in a non-conference baseball doubleheader played Saturday afternoon in Rolla, Missouri as the host Miners won low-scoring battles 4-1 and 5-3. Missouri S&T is now 8-3 on the season while WSC drops to 7-4.
The opener saw the host Miners score four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to post a 4-1 win over the Wildcats.
The game was a pitcher's duel between starters
Jackson Shelburne for Wayne State and Missouri S&T's Ethan Morrow. Shelburne allowed just a lead off single to start the game and held the Miners hitless until the sixth inning.
Wayne State opened the scoring with a run in the top of the fifth inning without a hit.
Cam Madsen walked, moved to second on a balk, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 WSC lead.
The score stayed 1-0 until the big sixth inning by the Miners, who recorded four runs on four hits to rally for the 4-1 win.
Missouri S&T had five hits in the game to just three for WSC, all singles.

Kaden Young each singled.
Shelburne (1-2) suffered the hard luck loss in a strong outing, allowing just two runs on three hits in 5 1/3 innings with five strikeouts. Junior reliever
Jacob Kneifl worked the final 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on two hits.
The second game saw the Miners used a four-run sixth inning to take control of the contest for a 5-3 win over the Wildcats to complete the sweep.
WSC took a 1-0 lead in the second as
Quinn McCafferty walked and scored on a
Braden Cannon groundout.
The Miners tied the score in the fourth with one run and used a four-run sixth inning with three hits and two Wildcat errors to take a 5-1 advantage.
The Wildcats got two runs back in the seventh as
Alex Calabrese walked and later scored on a fielder's choice by
Colin Lynam while the second run was scored by
Cade Lynam when he walked and scored on a Miners' error to make the score 5-3.
Wayne State could not rally in the eighth or ninth innings as Missouri S&T closed with a 5-3 win.

Reliever
Kadyn Van Hill (0-1) was tagged with the pitching loss in 2 1/3 innings of work, allowing four runs (all unearned) on three hits. Starter
Nathan Anderson worked 3 1/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits.
Alex Calabrese pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief while
Josh Kilzer worked a scoreless eighth inning.
