Northwest Missouri State scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to edge Wayne State 3-2 in non-conference softball Saturday afternoon in Liberty, Missouri. The Bearcats move to 8-7 on the year while the Wildcats slip to 1-13.
The contest was scoreless until the top of the fourth when with freshman
Emilee Marth belted a two-run homer that scored
Annika Manzanares, who walked, to give the 'Cats a 2-0 edge.
Northwest Missouri State had three runs on three hits the entire game and they all came in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Bearcats a 3-2 lead.
The Wildcats put two runners on base in the sixth as
Lillie Timm doubled and Marth walked with two outs, but WSC could not get the extra hit to tie or possibly take the lead and the Bearcats finished with the 3-2 win.
Wayne State held a 5-3 advantage in hits, led by Marth's two-run homer along with a double.
Jordyn Klein went 2 for 3 while
Lillie Timm had a double.
Senior starter
Callie Carraher suffered the pitching loss despite allowing just three hits in four innings. Junior
Grace Lucka pitched two innings of hitless relief.
Wayne State will play William Jewell Sunday at 11 a.m. and Northwest Missouri State at 1:30 p.m. in Liberty, Mo.
