Minnesota Crookston handed Wayne State a pair of Northern Sun Conference softball losses Saturday afternoon in Crookston, Minnesota by scores of 3-0 and 8-2. WSC falls to 6-32 and 2-12 in the league while the host Golden Eagles improve to 11-29 and 4-12 in NSIC games.
The opener saw Minnesota Crookston limit the 'Cats to just three hits for a 3-0 victory.
UMC scored two runs in the third and added one more in the fourth for the game's scoring.
Wayne State had three singles in the contest from
Dylan Sweeney,
Annika Manzanares and
Masyn Bunnell.
Starting pitcher Sami Felt (2-13) suffered the pitching loss in five innings of work, allowing three runs on seven hits with one strikeout. Junior
Grace Lucka worked the final inning and had two strikeouts.
The second game saw the Wildcats hold a 2-0 lead until UMC scored four runs in the third to take control of the contest for an 8-2 win.
WSC scored both runs and had four of their eight hits in the third inning to grab a 2-0 advantage.
Emilee Marth opened the inning with a walk and scored on a double to right field by Bunnell for the first run.
Jordyn Rochholz later doubled in the inning and touched home plate on a
Lillie Timm single for a 2-0 WSC lead.
Minnesota Crookston responded with an even bigger inning, scoring four runs for a 4-2 lead and adding two more in the fourth for a 6-2 cushion.
The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the fifth and held an 8-2 lead. WSC threatened to score runs in the sixth inning, but left the bases loaded on a pair of walks and single without scoring a run as the score stayed 8-2.
Minnesota Crookston had one more hit than WSC 9-8. Rochholz was 2 for 3 with a double and run scored while Timm finished 2 for 4 with a pair of singles and RBI. Bunnell had a double and RBI while
Jordyn Klein,
Mary Krystofiak and
Hayley Murphy each singled.

Grace Lucka (4-7) was tagged with the pitching loss in four innings of work. Sophomore
Sophie Stuart worked the remaining two innings.
