Augustana handed Wayne Stat 8-0 and 16-2 losses Wednesday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference softball played at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The host Vikings are now 36-13 and 21-1 in the NSIC while the Wildcats drop to 7-35 and 3-15 in league games.
Wayne State was held to just two hits in the opener as the Vikings produced an 8-0 win in six innings.
Both Wildcat hits in the game were singles –
Jordyn Rochholz in the fourth inning and
Louisa Stowman in the fifth.
Senior
Callie Carraher (0-6) started the game in the circle and worked one inning. Juniors Sami Felt and
Grace Lucka also pitched in relief.
The second game saw the Vikings score in every inning to defeat the 'Cats 16-2 in five innings.
Augustana had two runs in the first, four in the second, a seven-run third inning and three more in the fourth.
Wayne State scored both runs in the fifth inning as Stowman doubled to left center field and later scoring on an RBI single from
Lauren Laudick. Laudick later scored when Rochholz singled and a throwing error by Augustana allowed Laudick to cross home plate.
The Wildcats had six hits in the game. Rochholz was 2 for 3 with a pair of singles. Stowman doubled and scored while Laudick singled and scored.
Jordyn Klein and
Masyn Bunnell each had singles.
Junior starter
Grace Lucka (5-8) was tagged with the loss while sophomore
Sophie Stuart saw action in relief.
The Wildcats will be at home Friday afternoon hosting the University of Sioux Falls in an NSIC doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
