Wayne State and Northern State attempted to conclude their three-game NSIC baseball series Sunday morning and early Sunday afternoon, making it to the top of the fifth inning with one out before the game was called and following a second lightning delay at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne. Since the game did not go the official five full innings the game is considered canceled.
Northern State held a 2-1 lead in the contest with one out in the fifth inning when the contest was declared officially canceled.
The Wolves jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the first pitch of the game, belting a solo homer over the center field wall.
WSC got a pair of two out hits in the bottom of the first – a single by
Colin Lynam and a double from
Trey Wells – but left both runners stranded in scoring position.
The 'Cats threatened to score again in the second as
Kaden Young singled and went to third on a
Cam Madsen single but both runners were left on base.
WSC tied the score in the third when
Colin Lynam walked and crossed home plate on a single up the middle by senior
Kyler Essink to make the score 1-1.
The Wolves used one hit and three walks to regain the lead at 2-1 in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth Madsen got on base with a two-out single but was left stranded and then with one out in the top of the fifth the game was called following a second lightning delay followed by heavier rain shortly after to officially cancel the game.
WSC held a 6-2 edge in hits in the contest with Madsen going 2 for 2.

Junior lefthander
Jacob Kneifl pitched the first 3 2/3 innings allowing two runs on two hits.
Eli Crnkovich worked the final 2/3 innings.
Wayne State is scheduled to play at Minnesota State Tuesday afternoon in an NSIC doubleheader at 1:30 p.m.
