Box Score Washburn scored 30 seconds into the second half for the lone goal of the contest to defeat Wayne State College 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer Sunday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch. The 'Cats are now 1-2-1 while Washburn improves to 2-2.
The visiting Ichabods controlled the ball for most of the scoreless first half, holding a 7-1 advantage in shots and 2-0 in corner kicks.
Washburn came out to start the second half and scored 31 seconds into the half on a shot from Belle Kennedy giving the Ichabods a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats had a golden chance to even the score with less than four minutes remaining when
Morgan Rhodes played ball right in front of the net to senior midfielder
Maia Vacks, who's open shot sailed high and Washburn left Wayne, America with a 1-0 win.
Shots were more balanced in the second half with Washburn holding an 8-6 edge, finishing the contest with a 15-7 advantage over the Wildcats. Wayne State did have two more shots on goal than the Ichabods 5-3. Washburn enjoyed a 5-0 edge in corner kicks on the Wildcats.
Rhodes had two of Wayne State's five shots on goal in the contest while
Jordan Bedard, Alyssa Ferrin and
Rachel Davis also had shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper
Sidney Truman suffered the loss despite allowing just one goal while recording two saves.
Wayne State opens Northern Sun Conference play Friday afternoon playing in Marshall, Minnesota against Southwest Minnesota State at 1 p.m.
