#8 'Cats open NSIC play with 3-1 win at MSU Moorhead

            #8 Wayne State held MSU Moorhead to a .111 hitting percentage forcing 29 attack errors while sophomore outside hitter Channatee Robles recorded a match-high 17 kills to lead the Wildcats in a 25-9, 18-25, 25-19, 25-11 win at MSU Moorhead to open Northern Sun Conference volleyball play Friday evening in Moorhead, Minnesota.  The 'Cats are now 7-2 and 1-0 in the league while MSUM is 5-4 and 0-1 in NSIC games.
            The opening set saw the Wildcats control from start to finish, taking an early 9-1 lead enroute to cruising in a 25-9 set victory.  WSC posted a stellar hitting percentage of .444 in the first set with 14 kills and just two errors on 27 attacks while holding MSU Moorhead to -.067 forcing seven attack errors with just five kills for the Dragons.
            Senior middle hitter Taya Beller paced the 'Cats in the opening set with five kills on seven attacks and a .571 hitting percentage.  Sophomore Channatee Robles followed with four kills and five digs while senior outside hitter Brooklyn Kusler produced two of Wayne State's three service aces in the opening set.
            The host Dragons established momentum in the second set, recording a .390 hitting percentage with 20 kills, to even the match with a 25-18 set win.  The set featured seven ties early with the final one coming at 11-11.  MSUM then reeled off four straight points to take the lead for good forcing a Wildcat timeout at 15-11.  WSC never got closer than five points the rest of the set as MSU Moorhead ended with the set win.
            It didn't take long for the Wildcats to get the momentum back in the third set, grabbing a 7-1 lead and building a 20-10 advantage in the set before finishing with a 25-19 win to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
            Robles accounted for seven kills in the set for WSC.  The Wildcats forced eight attack errors on MSU Moorhead that included three WSC blocks.
            The fourth set saw the Wildcats string together 10 straight points after trailing 7-5 and WSC cruised to a 25-11 fourth set win to take the match 3-1.
            With the set tied at 8-8, WSC scored 10 straight points to take control of the set.  Maggie Brahmer had four kills in the set while Beller was tough at the net with three solo blocks.  The 'Cats held MSU Moorhead to a -.097 hitting percentage forcing 10 attack errors on the Dragons in the set.
            Wayne State finished the match with a .304 hitting percentage recording 50 kills.  MSU Moorhead hit .111 with 46 kills, but the 'Cats forced 29 Dragon attack errors.  WSC held a 68-64 edge in digs and 9-4 in blocks.
            Robles led Wayne State's attack with a match-high 17 kills.  Brahmer finished with 11 while Beller had 10.  Beller ended the match with six blocks (four solo) while Kusler had two of Wayne State's five aces.  Senior libero Brooke Peltz had 21 digs with freshman setter Molly Romano accounting for 43 set assists and 15 digs.
            Wayne State is in action again Saturday afternoon visiting #24 Northern State in a 3 p.m. match.
