WILDCATS DROP SEASON OPENER TO MOUNTAIN LIONS IN ARIZONA

Box Score             UC Colorado Springs used a five-run second inning to jump the Wildcats in WSC's season opener this afternoon in Tucson, Arizona. The 'Cats drop to 0-1 and UCCS improves to 1-0.
            The Mountain Lions used four hits and two walked batters to score five runs in the second inning to open up the score.
            UCCS out hit Wayne State 9-7 and forced WSC into one error. The Wildcats were unable to take advantage of runners in scoring position, leaving eight runners on the bases throughout the game.
            After a WSC pitching change, the 'Cats put the Mountain Lions down in order in the third but were unable to gain any traction after only getting two hits in the top of the fourth.
 UCCS scored four more runs in the fourth and held a 9-0 lead all the way until the eighth inning, scoring their 10th run to close out the game.
            Chase Douglas finished two for three with two singles and Cam Madsen followed up finishing two for four. Jackson Shelburne (0-1) started on the bump and struck out two batters for the Wildcats.
 
Wayne State will be back in action at 3:00 p.m. central time as they take on CSU Pueblo.
