'Cats back on track with 4-0 home win over SMSU

Box Score             The Wayne State women's soccer team got back on the winning track Friday afternoon snapping a three-game losing skid with a 4-0 home victory over Southwest Minnesota State in Northern Sun Conference play at the WSC Soccer Pitch.  The Wildcats are now 5-3-4 on the season and 4-3-2 in league play while SMSU drops to 2-10 and 1-8 in NSIC contests.
            Senior forward Reagan Allen opened the scoring in the ninth minute, taking a cross from Tyler Donaldson to score from the middle of the box giving the 'Cats a 1-0 lead.
            The first half ended with WSC holding a 7-5 edge in shots and 5-3 in shots on goal.
            Wayne State put the contest out of reach less than 15 minutes into the second half scoring a pair of goals for a 3-0 lead.  The first was an own goal off the SMSU goalkeeper at the 56:06 mark for a 2-0 Wildcat advantage and less than two minutes later senior Alaina Sorensen scored a goal with assists from Allen and Paige Pemberton putting the 'Cats ahead 3-0.
            Reserves played the final 20-25 minutes for WSC and the 'Cats closed scoring with senior Abby Evers recording her third goal of the season with an assist from Rachel Davis at the 73:52 mark making the final score 4-0.
            Wayne State ended the contest with an 18-9 advantage in shots and 10-5 in shots on goal.  The 'Cats had seven corner kicks to three by the Mustangs while SMSU was called for nine fouls to seven on the Wildcats.
            Allen had one goal and one assist to lead the Wildcats offensively while Sorensen and Evers also notched goals.  Pemberton had five shots (three on goal) with an assist while Sorensen and Kaylee Herall each had two shots on goal.
            Sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Hofstetter played the first 61 minutes and earned the win credited with three saves while freshman Katelyn Miller was in net for the final 29 minutes and had two saves.
            The Wildcats will be on the road Sunday afternoon visiting Sioux Falls in an NSIC contest beginning at 1 p.m.
