The #9 Wayne State volleyball team defeated the Winona State Warriors 3-1 this evening in the NSIC matchup. Set scores were 25-14, 25-17, 17-25, and 30-28. WSC improved to 13-2 overall and stay a perfect 6-0 in conference. Winona move to 9-5 and 4-2.
Set one was all Wildcats as they jumped out to a quick 10-3 lead and forced Winona to take a timeout. WSC would tack on six more points and gained their largest lead of the set 16-4 to a pair of kills from freshman
Delaney Miller. Miller would lead the 'Cats with five kills in the first set while
Channatee Robles added four.
In set two, the Warriors would battle back and forth with the Wildcats until WSC went on a 6-0 run led by Robles, to make it 11-4. Wayne State would hold onto their lead and take the second set capped off by a
Chloe Hanel kill and a WSU error. Robles stacked seven kills in the set to go with a block.
Winona State took set three as they hit .552 in the set. Hanel had five kills to lead the Wildcats.
The fourth set was an absolute battle as the two teams traded points back and forth, neither being able to gain more than a one-point advantage. With the score tied at 11, WSU would be the first to gain an advantage, taking a short lived 13-11 lead before Wayne made it even.
WSC would build a four point lead late, 22-18. Winona called the final timeout and were able to cut it to 24-22 in favor of WSC and then 24-24 after a Wildcat timeout.
The 'Cats had match point but the Warriors weren't going away, as the two battled back and forth again, tying the score up to 28 apiece. A Warrior attack error gave WSC match point once again and Robles finished off the match with her 19
th kill of the match to give WSC the 30-28 win in the fourth set.
Robles led WSC with her 19 kills as she hit .312 and added 12 digs. Five Wildcats were in double figure digs led by freshman
Mattie Kamery with 16.
Molly Romano had another double-double with 11 digs and dished out 44 assists.
Laney Kathol and Hanel each had three blocks.

Wayne State will be back in action tomorrow evening as they take on #11 ranked Concordia-St. Paul at 5 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
