Wildcats suffer 4-2 loss at #2 Minnesota State

            Two late goals by Wayne State were not enough to rally as #2 Minnesota State downed the Wildcats 4-2 in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer Sunday afternoon in Mankato, Minnesota.  The host Mavericks improve to 15-0-2 and 13-0-1 in the NSIC while the Wildcats slip to 6-7-4 and 5-7-2 in conference play.
            Minnesota State scored a pair of goals in the first half in the 27th and 40th minutes to grab a 2-0 halftime advantage. 
            The host Mavericks held a 13-7 edge in shots during the first half while both teams had five shots on goal.
            MSU scored just 54 seconds into the second half for a 3-0 lead and converted a penalty kick at the 66:18 mark for a 4-0 cushion.
            Wayne State got on the scoreboard at the 79:26 mark when Paige Pemberton assisted a goal by Nevaeh James to make the score 4-1.
            The 'Cats closed the scoring at the 83:53 mark on a penalty kick by Morgan Mancuso for her team-leading sixth goal of the season to make the final score 4-2.
            Minnesota State held a 28-10 advantage in shots and 11-8 in shots on goal.  MSU held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks and the Mavericks were called for 12 fouls to nine by the Wildcats.
            James and Mancuso each had two shots on goal and both scored goals for the Wildcats.  Alaina Sorensen, Molly Riggins, Rachel Davis and Paige Pemberton also recorded shots on goal.
            Freshman Katelyn Miller played the opening 45 minutes in goal for the Wildcats, credited with three saves while giving up two goals.  Sophomore Alexa Hofstetter played the second half in net and allowed two goals with four saves.
            Wayne State closes the season on Thursday afternoon in Sioux Falls battling Augustana at 3 p.m.
