Wayne State faces Washburn in a matchup of Top 10 nationally ranked teams Thursday morning to open the NCAA Central Region Volleyball Tournament in Kearney at 11 a.m. The Wildcats, seeded third in the regional, are 27-4 overall and ranked fourth in the final AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. Washburn is the sixth seed for the Central Regional and is ranked seventh with a 26-4 record. WSC went 19-1 in NSIC play and captured a share of the NSIC regular season title - the third for the Wildcats in the last four years - while the Ichabods went 13-3 in the MIAA and tied Nebraska-Kearney and Missouri Western for the MIAA regular season title. WSC and Washburn were former members of the NAIA Central States Intercollegiate Conference from 1976-89 and faced each other at least twice every year as conference members but have not faced each other since the 2003 season - #23 Washburn beat WSC in Topeka 30-19, 30-21, 30-21. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 16-9.
