Box Score Wayne State Baseball were unable to slow down UC Colorado Springs in their matchup this afternoon, losing, 17-10. WSC held a six-run lead after three innings before the Mountain Lions scored 14 runs in the next three innings.
WSC opened the score in the second inning, after a
Casey Prychak line drive allowed
Taylor Gill and
Max Heard to score a pair of runs. The Mountain Lions got on the board in the top of the third, making it 2-1 Wayne State.
Bottom of the third Wayne State put up five runs. A
Quinn McCafferty single sent
Noah Strizek home for the first of the runs scored. McCafferty would touch home thanks to a Heard double out to left field.
Gill earned two RBI after he sent
Gabe Monosmith and Heard home for the fifth and sixth runs of the day for Wayne State. WSC's final run came off a Brayden Cannon line drive to center and Gill getting home.
The next three innings would be all UCCS, as they put up 14 runs. Eight of them came in the fourth inning, taking a 9-7 lead over the 'Cats. Wayne State would be put down in order after UCCS's big fourth.
Fifth inning Wayne looked to make a comeback. Heard scored off a Gill triple out to right field and Gill scored the following at bat after Young hit a line drive out to right.
After the Mountain Lions scored their three runs in the sixth, neither team would be able to get runs on the board for the next two innings.
UCCS scored a pair of runs in the ninth to take a 17-9 lead. WSC scored one run off a Cannon homer to left field to give the 'Cats double-digit runs. WSC dropped to 0-3 on their Arizona trip.
WSC will be back in action tomorrow afternoon against Colorado State University Peublo at 2:00 p.m.
