The Wayne State College baseball team opens Northern Sun Conference play this weekend facing Minnesota Crookston in a four-game series at Pueblo, Colorado. The series opens Saturday with a nine-inning game at 3 p.m. followed by a Sunday doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. with the series ending Monday in a 12 p.m. nine-inning contest. WSC is off to a 1-3 start this season while UMC is 1-2.
The Wildcats opened the season going splitting games with CSU Pueblo while dropping a pair of contests to UC-Colorado Springs January 31-February 2 in Tucson, Arizona while the Golden Eagles opened their season last weekend in California going 1-2 against Stanislaus State.
Noah Strizek led the 'Cats at the plate in the opening series going 8 for 14 (.571) at the plate with four RBI followed by
Max Heard going 7 for 15 (.467) with three doubles and five runs scored.
Last season, WSC won four of five games against Minnesota Crookston. The 'Cats went 3-1 vs. the Golden Eagles in their four-game NSIC series played in Fort Scott, Kansas followed by a Wayne State 4-3 win over Minnesota Crookston at the NSIC Baseball Tournament in Bismarck, North Dakota. Wayne State holds a 60-12 advantage in the all-time series vs. Minnesota Crookston that began in the 2000 season.
