#15 Point Loma defeated #25 Wayne State 25-20, 21-25, 26-24, 25-15 Saturday morning in the semi-finals of the Colorado Premier Volleyball Challenge in Denver, Colorado. The Wildcats drop to 5-2 on the season with the loss while the Sea Lions improve to 5-1 with the win.
The Sea Lions pounded out 23 kills in the opening set with a .339 hitting percentage to defeat the Wildcats. WSC had just one attack error in the set as sophomore middle hitter
Chloe Hanel had four kills and one solo block.
The second set featured 10 ties and six lead changes with WSC scoring the final five points of the set to even the match with a 25-21 victory. With WSC trailing 21-20, the 'Cats used a kill from freshman
Delaney Miller to even the score at 21-21 followed by four straight kills from freshman
Mattie Kamery to close the second set win.
Kamery ended the second set with seven kills for WSC followed by
Channatee Robles with five.
The third set was another back-and-forth battle with nine ties and five lead changes. Wayne State's last lead came at 15-14 followed by four straight points from the Sea Lions to take the lead for good. Point Loma held a comfortable 23-18 lead, but WSC battled back and knotted the score at 24-24 following a kill by Kamery. But the Sea Lions closed the set with a pair of kills for a 26-24 set win.
Miller and Kamery each accounted for five kills in the third set while
Reese Johnson and Robles both had service aces.
Point Loma built an early 8-3 lead in the fourth set and slowly pulled away to finish the match with a 25-15 set win for the match victory 3-1. Miller had a team-best three kills in the final set for the Wildcats.
For the match, Point Loma hit .309 with WSC at .230. The Sea Lions enjoyed a 90-80 advantage in digs and 71-54 in kills. WSC had one more service ace than Point Loma, 5-4.
Kamery paced Wayne State with 17 kills along with 10 digs. Robles also notched a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs while Miller also recorded 12 kills. Sophomore libero

Reese Johnson recorded 16 digs and two service aces. Sophomore setter
Molly Romano produced 48 set assists with 13 digs for a double-double.
Wayne State will face Missouri Western at 5:30 p.m. for third-place in the Colorado Premier Challenge.
