#25 Wildcats take third-place at Colorado Premier with 3-1 win over Missouri Western

            Freshman outside hitter Delaney Miller recorded a match-high 18 kills to lead #25 Wayne State in a 3-1 win over Missouri Western Saturday evening in the third-place game at the Colorado Premier Volleyball Challenge in Denver, Colorado.  Scores of the match were 25-21, 17-25, 25-21 and 25-21.  Both teams are now 6-2 on the season.
            Wayne State had a strong finish to the opening set that saw 13 ties and three lead changes as the Wildcats registered 17 kills and a .441 hitting percentage to down the Griffons 25-21.  The 13th and final tie of the opening set came at 21-21, then the 'Cats scored the final four points of the set on a Laney Kathol kill, Missouri Western attack error, WSC block by Kathol and Mattie Kamery and a Channatee Robles service ace to end the set.
            Robles and Miller each had five kills to lead WSC in the first set.
            Missouri Western stormed back in the next set and evened the match with a 25-17 second set win over the 'Cats.  The Griffons had a .364 hitting percentage with 16 kills.  Miller notched five kills to lead WSC in the set with Robles adding four.
            The third set was all Wildcats as WSC jumped out to an early 9-2 lead and was in front 19-12 before finishing with a 25-21 set win.
            Miller accounted for six kills to lead the 'Cats in the third set followed by Mattie Kamery with four to go with eight digs.  Reese Johnson added two service aces.
            WSC overcame an early deficit in the fourth set (5-1) and battled back to finish off the Griffons for a 25-21 win, taking the match 3-1.  With the score tied at 12-12, WSC took the lead for good with kills from Kamery and Chloe Hanel along with a Missouri Western attack error.  The 'Cats forced six errors and four blocks in the set.
            Hanel had a strong fourth set with six kills and two solo blocks for WSC with Kamery and Robles each adding four kills.
            Wayne State held a slight edge in hitting percentage over Missouri Western .264-.255.  The 'Cats held a 62-55 edge in kills and 82-76 in digs while also holding a 5-2 edge in service aces.  Both teams had eight blocks.
            Miller's 18 kills led four Wildcats with 10 or more kills.  Robles added 15 kills with Kamery and Hanel recording 12 apiece.  Kamery had a team-high 16 digs followed by setter Molly Romano with 15 and sophomore libero Anna Borner 12.  Johnson and Robles each had two service aces while Romano was credited with 52 set assists.
            Wayne State opens Northern Sun Conference play on the road next weekend as the 'Cats visit Minnesota Crookston Friday at 6 p.m. and MSU Moorhead Saturday in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
