Errors cost Wildcats in loss at Trevecca Nazarene

            Wayne State College suffered 28 attack errors Saturday afternoon as the 21st-ranked Wildcats fell to host Trevecca Nazarene 18-25, 18-25, 25-15, 20-25 at the Thrasher Volleyball Classic in Nashville, Tennessee.  WSC drops to 3-1 on the season while the host Trojans improve to 2-0.
            The Wildcats got off to a slow start in the first set, trailing 5-0, and never led in the set.  WSC got within one at 16-15 but the host Trojans scored five of the next six points for a 21-16 lead and finished the set in front 25-18.
            WSC had nine attack errors in the opening set as Channatee Robles recorded three kills.
            The second set saw nine ties and three lead changes between the two clubs.  The set was back and forth early until Trevecca Nazarene surged late in the set for another 25-18 win.
            Down 8-6, WSC scored four straight points capped by consecutive aces from freshman Mattie Kamery giving the 'Cats a 10-8 advantage.  Later in the set a kill from Kamery gave WSC its final lead of the set at 14-13.  TNU then reeled off seven of the next eight points for a 20-15 lead and won the set 25-18.
            The 'Cats had 10 attack errors in the second set and hit -.028 with Kamery recording four kills and two aces in the set to lead WSC.
            Wayne State appeared to have gained momentum in the third set, closing strong for a 25-15 victory after the set was tied 12-12.  The 'Cats hit .407 in the set with Robles recording five kills to lead the 'Cats.
            The fourth set saw the host Trojans never trail in the set, tied once at 8-8, as Trevecca Nazarene stopped the Wildcat rally with a 25-20 fourth set win to capture the match 3-1.
            Trailing 17-12, the 'Cats rallied and closed within one at 18-17 but Trevecca Nazarene scored four of the next five points for a 22-18 cushion and finished with a 25-20 set win.
            TNU hit .207 in the match while holding Wayne State to just a .086 hitting percentage.  The Trojans had a 59-52 advantage in digs, 8-5 in blocks and 8-7 in service aces.
            Kamery had 12 kills for WSC followed by Robles with 11 and Hanel nine.  Sophomore libero Anna Borner had a team-high 15 digs followed by Reese Johnson with 11 and Robles 10.  Sophomore setter Molly Romano handed out 32 set assists in the contest.          
            The Wildcats will be on the road again next weekend playing at the Colorado Premier Challenge.  WSC meets Lewis (Ill.) at 11 a.m. Friday followed by a 3 p.m. contest against #6 MSU Denver in pool play.
