Aurrion Harris of Wayne State College was named NSIC South Division Men's Basketball Player of the Week Monday afternoon by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota following his play in Wildcat home games over the weekend against Northern State and Jamestown. It's the first time in over 2 ½ seasons – Jordan Janssen / February 13, 2023 – that a Wildcat men's basketball player has collected NSIC Player of the Week honors.
Harris, a 6-4 redshirt junior guard from Merced, California (CSU Pueblo/Golden Valley HS), averaged 20.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 68 percent (11-16) from the field and a perfect 100 percent at the free throw line going 18-18. He accounted for a career-high 24 points with eight rebounds, going 11-11 at the stripe in Friday's 86-79 win over Northern State and followed that with a double-double Saturday posting 17 points and 12 rebounds in a 73-70 setback to Jamestown.
For the season, Harris is averaging 9.6 points and 7.1 rebounds a game (5
th-NSIC), ranking third in the NSIC in free throw percentage at 90.7 percent (49-54), ninth in steals per game (1.6) and tied for 10
th in blocked shots (0.8). He has scored double figures in six straight and seven of his last nine games with two double-doubles and two games of 20 or more points.
Wayne State is 9-7 on the season and 5-5 in the NSIC South Division. The Wildcats are on the road this weekend visiting Minnesota Crookston Friday at 5:30 p.m. and MSU Moorhead Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
