Minnesota Duluth sank 13 3-pointers while holding Wayne State to just 34.5 percent shooting in a 83-56 Northern Sun Conference women's basketball victory Friday evening over the Wildcats at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. UMD moves to 15-4 and 13-2 in the NSIC while WSC drops to 9-12 and 4-11 in conference play.
Senior guard
Meg Rietz opened the game with a basket for the Wildcats and that was the lone Wayne State lead of the night.
The visiting Bulldogs made their first three 3-pointers of the game and connected on 5 of 9 long balls in the opening quarter to build a 21-13 lead on WSC.
The 'Cats struggled finding the basket in the second quarter, held to just three baskets and eight points, as Minnesota Duluth took a 37-21 lead at intermission.

Tenleigh Smith score five points in the quarter with
Rachel Dahlen and
Addy Johnson each adding four with UMD holding a 60-36 lead after three quarters.
Both teams shot the ball well in the fourth quarter with UMD going 9 of 17 from the field (52.9%) while WSC hit 7 of 15 shots for 46.7 percent as eight different Wildcats scored in the final quarter. UMD held a 23-20 scoring edge in the final stanza and finished the contest with an 83-56 win.
Smith scored 11 points for the Wildcats with Dahlen adding 10.
Wayne State was 19 of 55 shooting for 34.5 percent, including 1 of 14 from the 3-point line. The 'Cats made 17 of 20 free throws.
Myra Moorjani poured in a game-high 17 points to lead five Bulldog players in double figures. Grace Counts and Lexi Karge each scored 13, Claire Bjorge chipped in 12 and Maria Counts had 11.
Minnesota Duluth shot 49.3 percent from the field making 33 of 67 shots, going 13 of 24 from the 3-point line. The Bulldogs were 4 of 7 at the foul stripe.
UMD held a 39-34 edge in rebounding with
Lily Fitzgerald and
Kylah vanDonkersgoed each grabbing five boards for the 'Cats.
The Wildcats are at home again Saturday afternoon hosting Bemidji State at 3:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
