Wayne State College women's basketball dropped a home contest to the St. Cloud State Huskies this evening, 64-52. WSC moves to 10-15 overall and 5-14 in the league. SCS are now 12-12 and 9-10.
The Wildcats found themselves trailing three after the first quarter, led by senior Meg Reitz with six points and
Rachel Dahlen with four. St. Cloud State outscored Wayne State 24-11 in the second quarter to go into halftime up 39-23.
In the third quarter, Wayne State cut into the Huskies lead and trailed by seven points after a
Kelsey Willems field goal. SCS followed up and extended the lead back out to nine before the buzzer.
Emma Frost opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back buckets to cut the deficit to just five points. St. Cloud State would stall any Wildcat comeback and responded with a quick 8-2 run and eventually extender their lead back out to 15 points.
Kylah vanDonkersgoed led the 'Cats in scoring with 19 points. Frost added another 10 points off the bench along with three rebounds, three assists and a steal. Frost was perfect from the floor going 4-4 and connected on her two free throw attempts.
Dahlen ended with six points and eight rebounds and Reitz finished with eight points and three rebounds.
vanDonkersgoed lead the team with four steals and three blocks. WSC only had 10 turnovers in the game and forced SCS into making 17 turnovers.
WSC shot 39.3 percent in the contest and the Huskies connected on 41.3 percent of their attempts.
The Wildcats will be back home as they host the #1 team in the nation in Minnesota State Mavericks. Tip-off for the match up is set for 1 p.m. in Wayne, Neb.
