WAYNE STATE SOFTBALL OPENS 2026 SEASON WITH PAIR OF WINS IN FIRST HOME GAMES IN DOME

Wayne State opened the 2026 softball season Saturday afternoon with two wins over Chadron State and Nebraska Kearney on the Dr. Ron Holt Field in the Wildcat Dome. WSC moves to 2-0 to start the season. The 'Cats handled the Eagles 15-2 in five innings and then used a five run first inning to hold off the Lopers 6-1.
In the first game of the afternoon, Chadron opened with a pair of runs off a Wildcat error. WSC responded with five runs on six hits. Taylor Coleman singles to right field and Jordyn Klein scored the first run for WSC.
With the bases loaded, Madie Scobee would hit a triple to left center off the fence and earn three RBIs as Kennadi Borngrebe, Emilee Marth, and Coleman scored.
Scobee would come back around behind a Reagan Dreibelbis single to give WSC a 5-2 lead after one.
Wayne State tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second, seeing Marth and Borngrebe round home.
The 'Cats exploded for eight runs in the third inning, going up 15-2. Borngrebe added two RBIs as Leah Chance and Marth scored. A hit by pitch and walk would bring in two more runs for the Wildcats.
Freshman Jordan Brustuen doubled up the middle, giving Scobee and Dreibelbis the opportunity to score runs. Klein followed up with a double of her own to make it 15-2.
Taylor Coleman gave up one hit in the fourth and struck out two in the fourth inning, ending the game with five strikeouts.
In the fifth, Brustuen came into the circle for the 'Cats and forced the three batters she faced to ground out.

Game two against Kearney, the 'Cats open with Klein singling to left and then stealing second. Chance would walk and Klein moved to third on a passed ball to be in scoring position. A Borngrebe sacrifice fly would give Klein the first run.
Chance and Coleman followed suit, adding runs in favor of the 'Cats. Jordan Rocholz earned an RBI with her single to third that pushed Scobee home.
The fifth run came from a Klein single down the left field line to put WSC up 5-0.
Borngrebe started in the pitching circle for the Wildcats and showed her dominance early. In the second inning she earned all three outs, striking out three batters and leaving two Lopers stranded.
The two squads would be scoreless until Kearney got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning off a single.
WSC added one insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-1 thanks to a Borngrebe single.
The Lopers went down in order to close out the game with Borngrebe striking out the final batter, her 12 of the contest.
Borngrebe ended the day with 12 strikeouts, three hits, four RBIs, and three runs scored to open the season. Marth finished the day 5-7 with three runs score and Coleman added three hits, three runs, and two RBIs.

The 'Cats are back in action tomorrow afternoon to close out the Wildcat Dome Triangular against the Eagles and Lopers. WSC takes on Chadron State at 12:30 p.m. and Nebraska Kearney at 3:00 p.m. on the Dr. Ron Holt Field in the Wildcat Dome.
